#53 - Terri Whitehead

In the early 1970’s there was a concept to combine rural schools so students would have more opportunities and it was driven by declining enrollment, budgetary restraints and reducing administrative costs and to offer a stronger curriculum to those students. Opposition came in the name of individual identity of the specific community. In Pike County, we were combining high schools from Otwell, Winslow and Petersburg. Stendal and Spurgeon had already consolidated to Winslow. Over 50 years down the road, our students not only learned to getalong, they like getting back together! Here to discuss, is the President of the Pike Central Alumni Association, Terri Whitehead.
